My game crashed during the final round of a lost map event, mainly due to me switching to whatsapp midfight. When I came back the app restarted instead of resuming the fight (as it normally would). Normally when this happens mid fight I get a popup to continue the fight, this time however this did not happen. Nor can I find the completed map anywhere in my inventory, or where I have to go to resume this fight. Is this a bug? Or am I just missing something.

Not really a bug, as this has always been the case for Lost Maps event node all along the last few months. Maybe to prevent some sort of cheese in trying to restart app to get a 6* loot chest to spawn.

However, you should be able to write in to customer service (in game ticket) and get a compensation event map for it, since they can see that you have used a map, but not completed it (pass or fail).
