Team building for Arena is partially based on skill, and also there's luck involved.
1) For the skill part, choosing the correct team composition is important. For the luck part, matchup is important.
For example, if your strategy is simply obliterate enemies, and you match up with a team that is built based on tank everything until skill spam stun sleep blind, you are dead. If your strategy is tile control (rune magus + ninja + dragoon), and you match up with a zerker vincent team who is geared to protect and smash, he'll kill your RM and break your set up. Luck do play a part, and of course, if you see team build, you MIGHT be able to have a feel if your team is able to win.
2) Power OVERWHELMING
There are players in PvP who already have
- Max level characters at +2, maybe even mlb
- Equipment +15, and 5*, 6* ones at that
- Fully runed +15
Given that limit break at max alone gives about +10% - +20% in stats, stat difference when you meet these players would mean something like double your basic stats especially if they focus on specific stats.
For examples, say atk stat is 3,000 at max level, +2. At mlb that will mean about 3600, more or less. If all equipment is Might suffix, getting 2000 atk is pretty easy. So that alone gives 5,600. Now comes the rune combination which gives some +20% atk base, with the bonus from the atk runes alone hitting close to 500 or more. So you will get something like 7,000++ atk, before crit. For a zerk, bonus dmg from allies in aura... Pretty much 1 hit kills.
Still, do note that this is an extreme case, most players can't reach that (yet), but good planning can bring you close to 70% of that, so against those players... well, good luck!
