[DISCUSSION] Events getting too hard or players not progressing fast enough?

Christmas Event

Seems like the higher floors are nigh impossible without a bunch of Mius. Have a squad with 5* +2 with max training heroes but the enemies are just too tanky. Exile 28 trial 2 (4* and below) in particular seems ridiculously hard too with the stun and sleep lock.

I understand that perhaps asking for all the possible event rewards is too much to ask for but at this point I'm pretty much stuck. Can't do Legendary 20-3 and beyond too so I'm basically desperately trying to find ways to spend my overflowing energy in an efficient way. The only place where I'm not stuck is Arena, climbed from Diamond 1 to Crystal 2 (I think) with 118W:12L this season.

Just want to clarify but I'm not complaining, love this game and it seems like it has a bright future ahead of it. But whatever happened to the developers adjusting the difficulty of the event when it was too hard? Granted the only time they lowered the difficulty was 100 arena wins to 50 for the King Maleos event quest, it appeared that for once a mobile game's developers actually listened to their players' feedback and adjusted the difficulty accordingly.

But after that the events just kept on getting harder and harder. Carnival of Horrors Legendary was challenging even with the two different variations of Seraphina. 5 chests that explode for 4-5k with 100k hp each? I needed 3 Seraphinas (plus ally) and a bit of luck to ensure that I killed the right chest with the rewards, and even then there were quite a few times I got no rewards because of unlucky attack bounces or no crits.

And then you have the Coliseum event. The jump from Heroic to Legendary was so high that even the soldiers from Attack on Titan couldn't scale the distance with their 3D maneuver gear. I managed to convince a friend of mine to start playing and even though I had a full month's lead ahead of him, we both ended up doing Heroic a few hundred times until the event ended. I did get a Leah from the Coliseum ticket though so for that I am thankful.

And now we come to this event. I understand players are not supposed to get all the rewards, and the easy rewards are a very generous gift from the developers to us, but I'm currently stuck in a tunnel with no signs of light ahead. I had initially considered buying the new Boxing Day bundle, but even with powerful gear, it doesn't seem like I'd be able to clear Exile 28 trial 2. Having a "4* and below" trial was interesting, but putting it on one of the highest floors was a really bad move in my opinion.

This game started out really nice and fun two months ago and seemed like it had a bright future ahead of it, but for now that positive momentum has run out and the honeymoon period of the game is over. I look forward to seeing what the developers have planned for us in the near future and the state of the game then as compared to now and before.


TL;DR This game started out really well and seemed promising, but the developers kind of seem like they are getting a little too greedy with their bundles and rate ups. 110 summons for 1 Cybella and 1 Miu. Events are getting really hard and the progression treadmill is pretty steep. And for context, I'm not an entitled f2p leech who expects the game's content to be tailored to him. I know developers have to eat and the money has to come from somewhere, but the $170 I put into the game doesn't make me feel like I got my money's worth in terms of enjoyment. I hate to say that but it's the current situation I find myself in now. Thank you for reading and putting up with my little rant. I'd like to start a discussion about this and find out what the other players think.

Edit: I'm apparently blind and need to get my eyes checked. Exile 28 trial 2 is "clear with squad of 4 or less" not "4* and below". I'm just gonna leave this here for the entire world to laugh at me now :c

I think the dev created those hard event is to give those high level/P2W player some "kick". If everything is too easy, they will find it boring and wont come back and see no point of paying. Most players are not meant to play at legendary level imo.

Seraphina event, i was lucky to get her on 1st gacha. Cleared all trials on the 3rd day. I didnt even have any 5* equipment back then. all 4* +15 with the right affix.
I can farm legendary manually cause my team is CC/stun lock. Just needed 1 Seraphina  in my team.

Coliseum event was too easy for me imo, cleared all trials on the 2nd day morning. However, Legendary is hard, but just need to know how to fully utilise your team and items/pot + some RNG luck.
Im able to farm legendary if i choose to but its too tiring so i auto the heroic one. Didnt get faye :(

This is what i do generally. I dont really care about event cause i know its just gonna hinder my progression on my characters. So i aim for event completion 100% first to get more gems, then grind material to craft items, then excess energy i go for event. Character growth >>> event
1) grind material for 5* equipment(helm + armor), get the right affix, make it +15. Use express ticket on 20-1 to get material fast.  Event items have good set bonus but chances are, their affix is quite shitty. so ignore them if possible. Sometimes i recraft my items even if they have the right affix due to bad stats at +9.
2) Grind for 4* weapon + 4* accessories set. Make it +15 
3) Grind for the best 3*/4* cape  or 5* wings. Get 5* arena wings. Need RNGesus for this one lol.
4) Pay 75 gems to recharge 3/3 capitol. Grind for best gem.

Are you able to clear legendary capital?

Im VIP 4, Arena rank around 150-200, only spent $25 SGD but i started early, from the 1st day of CBT. but i stopped playing after 1 month. so technically im only 1 month ahead of you cause i started playing again after game launched on start of Nov

I don't really have any hope of ever being a top tier player in any game - mobile or otherwise. It's just way too stressful. I enjoy VF because of it being a light turn based strat game (I love games like this), the great art (IMO) and satisfying my inner gambler/collector. I just try to see how far I can go while spending minimally.

That said, I also feel ya.

Even top players find the higher floors of this event really difficult. Exile tower just have 30 floors so if ur stuck at 28 you can keep go in to die until enemy stat is -40%(decreases by 2% per loss). Pillar of Unity, on the other hand, has a difficulty surge every 5 floors or so and when it gets to floor 40, omg. I know the pillar of unity is meant for people to help weaken enemies by repeating the stage, but its not exactly spammable when even top tier players in the guild has to throw gems to pass the stage. And 4-5 wins only reduce the difficulty by 1% .

VF team did mention that they will keep a rotation of both challenging and easy events. This one they probably want to make the top floors REALLY challenging.

I think the whole point is not be be overly zealous and greedy.

The 100% event quest chest box suggests that you only need to clear floor 25 in both pillars, which one Miu would do nicely. The rest of the achievements are do-able so hitting that box should be a medium challenge.
There is no exclusive achievement for clearing all the floors except for the individual floor rewards, which pays out real nicely and in accordance to how much you invest in the game. I felt this is a good move to motivate high paying players to invest more and keep the game going, something like a limitless cap to the event. What I really want to emphasize is, THERE IS NO NEED FOR YOU TO CLEAR ALL THE GODDAMN FLOORS.

I'm Plvl 15 and i'm having a hard time with floor 30 exile. And that's okay since i'm having fun, i believe the difficulty was the developer's intention as i mentioned above and i'm not being sour with lousy attitude against the devs for "Hey i invested so much and i can't beat your stupid event it was so much easier and fun before i see no light now".

I think the difficulty level is fine. The thing is that we should not try to fight above our tier or wish for rewards out of our reach. All games have to make thing challenging or top players will get bored and leave sooner.

The only event that I managed to clear every stage is the Curious Carnival of Horror as the devs later adjusted the mimic stage. Titans of Coliseum's legendary stage is out of my league but I'm OK coz I know it's meant for upper tier of players. I think the devs really listened to players' feedback (some complains about not being able to get 100% event achievement). So Since Titans of Coliseum, 100% event achievement can be completed by spamming heroic stages and for this event, 100% event achievement can be completed at 25th floor of both towers (equivalent to heroic difficulty imo). This means the devs really do well in putting 100% event achievement at moderate difficulty level while keeping challenge to top players.

I like the game with challenge coz it will be very satisfied when we reach the point where we can achieve it. I just reached as far as Expert 2 in arena before the last reset and I still think that not all stage rewards are meant for my reach. Not to mention that many more players above me, who haven't maximized the game play and bring out full strength of their squad, still struggle, so I think you should continue to nurturing your squad or add depth to it in preparation for next event. 

Do not forget that it is logical that mid-range players should not be able to complete end-game contents that are meant for top players.

Have you died enough for the floor you cant pass to be -40%?

Fair point, maybe I'm just not doing something right because I had the event heroes for the Coliseum event but still couldn't clear Legendary. What squad setup did you use to clear? I'd like to see it for reference. Also, thanks for the advice on gear, maybe I'll spend my energy to do that.
Also, no I haven't tried Legendary Capitol yet, not sure if I can clear it :/
