CB Testers get significant head start?

Fri Aug 26, 2016 10:46 pm

So it seems that closed beta testers get to keep their progress going into live. Doesn't this seem like too big of an advantage? Why wouldn't they just wipe like every other game?

They get:
* X number of days headstart (could be weeks)
* At least one exclusive hero ("Lulu is the exclusive Hero through Closed Beta Period only and she will not available in in Summon or any daily")

I saw on facebook that they are saying it won't be a problem but how is it possible that players with a headstart won't top the pvp rankings for the first several weeks (presumably getting rewards that add to their lead)?

Why are people so concerned about early or late access?
Come on, it is just a game!

Think about people who only discovered Valiant Force like 3 months after the game's official public release.
Are they really disadvantaged and should they pressure the development team into resetting every single person's stats to zero just so that it will be fair?

Just play and enjoy the game when it is officially released.
Ranking in a game means nothing in the real world.
It cannot land you a job or be used as a bargaining chip to ask for a pay raise.

i had the same thoughts as you when before i received the second batch of invites for cbt earlier today. Like you say , some ppl may lose out on the exclusive hero, but whose to say the hero wont appear again in another event? You must also consider that the cbt may last a few months and having to lose all progress is abit annoying. Well it all depends on your perspective. Have fun and have a nice day :)

For 99% of the other mobile games, they have months and months of "soft launch" in just 1 or 2 countries without data wipe as well.

That Lulu hero event, I asked the Facebook admin, was told she will most likely be added somewhere after launch. Not really Closed Beta exclusive.

The only "exclusive" hero now is Leandra from pre-register. But who knows, she might even end up in the game 1 year later.

Just to add, I recently played this mobile game called "HIT" during the "official launch".

Damn, there were already high level guilds and max level players... But I managed to catch up to them in a month, since there was no level cap increase :)

JeForceX, I know my post may have seemed like whining but I don't mean to. I'll try to clarify why it is important to some people.

There are some gamers that play casually and there are others that play competitively.

For the former group, they have no problem with head starts or joining a game late - I suppose you are in that group.
For the competitive players, they want to start on a level playing field - they typically do not join an older game because it is too hard to compete (without paying a bunch).

I suspect that wiping the game would make the competitive group happy and the casual group indifferent, but not wiping will have the competitive group disappointed and the casual group still indifferent. So it seems like an obvious choice to me.

As far as losing progress... it is standard to wipe a game after a test. I guess people that get disappointed by that are the people that are not testing the game but instead treating it like an exclusive head start.

Hanzo, you are right about the 'soft launches' - typically the competitive players download the APK to join the soft launches from any country so they can play from the start.

I think game companies are not really opened to piss gamers off... there must be some business or marketing or operations reasons. I am not always chosen for Closed Beta tests as well :(

Just to follow up - looks like this game is divided by servers, so if they regularly release new servers like many games do... the headstart really won't matter.

Like some members of the forum have already mentioned, Closed Beta for Valiant Force is somewhat similar to a soft-launch.

There are many mobile games which stay in soft-launch for around 6 months, and followed by official launch without a new server or data wipe.

Several reasons are behind all these arrangements, and they are not there to make players unhappy, but rather allow the company to balance various tasks.

While we understand not all players understand the operations mindset, we will do our best to launch Valiant Force as soon as possible.

And trust us, players who enter during launch WILL catch-up with those who entered during Closed Beta.
