MAG and ATK stats of heroes

1. this is something i saw while playing the game, my 5* merlin (maxed out zeus faith) and my 4* dark baron (maxed out athena faith + 1 limit break) have a difference in MAG stat about 1000 and Atk stat of about 500 (both in favour of dark baron). how come the all damage by baron are less than merlin.
2. Also why do priest and mage weapons (some of them) have Atk as their primary stat, i mean the bonus can be anything but why primary 461 Atk for mage wand??

Your questions are so right on the money. :) Ask the devs of their intelligent setup.

Kidding aside, offensive healers exist and could therefore make use of the atk boost from the equipment. 

Regarding your ATK and MAG inquiry, the MAG has no affiliation with physical attack in this game. If your Merlin has 4k attack and its target has 2000 DEF, the target simply takes 2k damage, as simple as that. Are you attacking different targets using your Merlin and Baron? That might be the reason why it seems your Baron is doing less damage. You might also be looking at the splash damage done to enemy mobs because 5* mystics have better splash damage than a 4* mystic.

Nope tried out on the same target for both both of them of them multiple times (to rule out crit).

If long distance (enemy not in the adjacent tile) damage by healers and mystics has no relation with mag stat. Why would you need it then?

That has been brought up by many people here for so long. MAG is literally the most useless stat because:
a. In PvE, Mystics only get to utilize their high MAG stats whenever their skill is ready to cast. Some enemies also have high MAG resistance which offsets a mystic's role of a supposed nuker. To be frank, that MAG stat is basically an aesthetic.
b. In PvP, skill effectiveness is toned down to 50%. What this means is that for example, "Heal with 100% of hero's MAG" will heal for 50% in PvP.
c. DEF mitigates skill damage but MAG doesn't mitigate physical damage. 
All in all, the devs of this game truly adore mystics and healers. *sarcasm*
