Kai Magebane - Too Squishy?

Mon Jan 23, 2017 12:38 pm

Hello everyone,

Have been lurking for a couple of weeks and finally decided to make an account here haha. I currently have a Hera faith Kai Magebane, which basically gets bursted down almost immediately in Arena and PVE. I originally chose this path because I read that Magebane's skills are useful for both PVP and PVE, but theres not much use if he dies before the skill even becomes available. I'm sitting on another Hera Kai (3 stars), and I'm thinking if i should persevere with Magebane and train him up to limit break my current Magebane, or whether I should just choose another path.

For reference, my team consists of:

Kane Grand Ranger
Lucille Inquisitor
Victoria Holy Defender
Faye Paladin
Kai Magebane

Thanks!!

From what i see in your arena line-up, the strategy that you employed to win is to capture and hold the points tile with both the guardians then utilize Inquisitor Lucille invulnerability to stall for another 2 turns. If thats so a Ninja will fit your team better. Place him in a corner in a backline and just swap tanks other than Chaos Knight to capture the points tile.
Ninja is also unbelievably good in clearing events and goldmine with the refresh aura. Though i would recommend an Ares Kai for it, hera is still pretty decent.

Hera kai is also good if you promote him to Assassin, his aura works on crit and is able to refresh your other heroes. However Ninja's aura is superior in a way that it could also refresh itself, you might be able to kill another unit with it then it will further refresh until your luck runs out or run out of unit to kill.

The thief class is pretty squishy in general, to address this problem you will want to have trinity prefix on your equipments for boost of atk & def, or might prefix if you want to go for more crit. Another solution is you could put a +15 rune of dodging on him, with 25% chance to dodge an attack he will survive the first round of attack exchange until he is able to use his skill.

Hello WhiteChocolate, thanks for the reply!

Right you are, that's my current arena strat. I think il take your advice and do a hera ninja kai and use him to limit break when i manage to roll an Ares kai.

Are there any instances where Assasin kai would be superior to Ninja kai? I see rarely see any Assassin kais actually.

While Ninja Kai's skill is more on tiles control, Assassin Kai skill makes him a very good single target killer as he is blessed with a very low cool down skill (5 turn) in comparison with his Magebane (7t) & Samurai (6t) counterparts.  His active skill allows him to silent and deal poison damage for 3 turns on a single target, it is ideal to be use on the main damage dealers such as rangers, ninja and champion as they have very low mag so they will take heavy damage from it, silencing also helps to mitigate damage done to your team. Depending on the situation you can also use it on mystic or healers to silent them, without skills at their disposals its as good as skipping their turns.

In terms of aura, while Ninja Kai is better at clearing mobs and granting extra turns, but he cant use his aura if there are no other mobs to kill besides the Boss.  So if you are using Assassin Kai his aura is still possible to help your team to gain an upper hand during the boss fight...  you can further enhance the chance by using runes of double strike, critical runes, or another hero's aura that can trigger Assassin Kai to attack, which might just trigger another critical...  well the possibility is endless.

Ninja Kai is probably more versatile in Arena as his swap is able to play the tile control games, reducing def of target by 45% for easy kill, at the same time granting stealth so he cant be targeted, which made up for his low defense.
