I'm asking in terms of efficiency, should I just farm the mats and create the Weapon forge (also have the Armor Forge) so I can make them as well as 5* ones in the future? or go with fusion altar for easier access to mats?

You really need the gold bar in your expedition I swear

Try this guide made not too long ago. There have been minor tweaks to certain buildings after that especially crafting but their purpose is still the same.
