Sorry that I can't spoon feed you because at the end, it's your choice to make not mine.
Here's some tips:
1. Choose between defending tiles or clearing team. Most people would stick to defending tiles because gaining point will give you an upper hand and head start.
2. Have a squad to counter 2nd move (what I mean is you didn't get to go first in arena because of the coin flip). So in your decision on who to place, choose some heroes who have low cool down for their skills. Cool downs are often overlook but for VF, it is a game changing technique.
3. Aura alignment. Take advantage of the aura alignment. My suggestion to you is.. do not build aura alignment in stationary position but predictive positioning or what they call... be 1 step ahead in your aura positioning.
Take for example a healer alighment for her or his aura is 1 unit to the left. This doesn't mean you have to place your tanker right beside her.
Why?
In arena, your characters are constantly moving and are subjected to knock back. Another mechanic in arena is 1 turn each for each team. So imagine your tanker is taking damage but you can't afford to move him out of the tile and the opponent has a knock back skill ready. You can place your healer behind this tanker but on the right side so when he get knock back, he will land in the aura. Another trick is swapping positioning which can help you to "reduce" movement count. How? Think about it yourself.
4. Team Composition
Who to include in your team is something everyone is asking. This itself is an advantage and disadvantage. Advantage is you already know who are the most common units to counter. Disadvantage is they are hard to counter that's why they are consider META. BUT this is why you should devise your own composition to counter 60% of the team you face. If your team losing rate is worse than 60% (individual preference), you might want to reconsider changing your line up again. With that being said there is a distinct job for each class that is currently OP and not really balance but there are other jobs who aren't popular that are the exact counter. Want me to name one? NINJA! Against who? See their skills to understand why.
Okay enough tips.
