Class Introduction, The Gladiator

Hi everyone,

Razk here, this is the second in my class introduction write up. In case you miss the first one about the Chaos Knight, check it out HERE. Similarly, the purpose of this guide is to help you decide whether you want to upgrade your precious Vincent to this job line.

We will start by looking at the stats for all 4 possible paths for Ares Vincent,

Image

As you can see, the champion is the class with the highest base ATK stats in the game. The gladiator comes with the lowest ATK/CRIT stats but has the highest DEF stats out of the 4 paths. This makes him less attractive but if you take his aura into account:

Given an actual team setup, one normally has at least one, if not two units, next to each other to make full use of every member’s aura. The picture below further explains how his aura works:

From the above image, we can conclude that in actual gameplay, Gladiator Vincent usually has the highest natural ATK stats, and only loses to the Berserker when the latter aura kicks in. This makes his normal attack quite deadly.

I will be repeating this here; the aura buff is inclusive of the base stats together with equipment and rune. For example the image above, the base ATK together with equipment and rune and you have 9099 ATK before entering battle. After entering battle it increases to 9449 ATK (+350 from Strike Tower).

With 1 member in the aura and you have: 9099 * 108% + 350 = 10176
With 2 members in the aura and you have: 9099 * 116% + 350 = 10903
With 3 members in the aura and you have: 9099 * 124% + 350 = 11630

With the nature of the class having to be in front at all times, Zeus or even Kratos build can be considered:

For his active skill:

A 6 turns CD AOE crowd control skill can be very handy. The damage is decently high considering his ATK stats with aura. The shield is a nice add-on to assist his survivability as a front liner.

A normal attack that is not so normal.

One of the very reason I like both 5* lancer classes and have been using them pretty much every where is because of the 3-tile normal attack. Unlike range attacker, melee attack does not suffer damage reduction for hitting back row enemy, except its already been reduced to 80% of course. Coupled with top tier ATK stats from the gladiator, you can always cause grievous wound for the enemy hiding at the back.
Furthermore, with the majority of the PVE maps having a 6x3 grid, you can take advantage of this by learning the enemy's spawn location and positioning your gladiator accordingly for hitting 3 enemies at once!

What makes this class less popular compare to the other Vincent’s choices?

-       Unlike the berserker or warlord, in the Arena, the active skill doesn’t have the ability to OHKO the opponent. This can be very crucial for winning sometimes.
-       The lack of team aura makes the class less attractive for some very powerful team combo, like the attack-trigger Warlord, Gunslinger, Samurai, and etc.
-       Less mobility compare to the Dragoon.
-       The play style is rather plain and straight forward compare to other champion classes.

Recommended suffix for equipment:

-       Of trinity to further boost his ATK/DEF
-       Of defense if one needs more survivability
-       Of might to focus on dps

Recommended rune:

-       Best equip with Fury Rune (to make full use of high base ATK stats) of Attack/Defense/Health depending on your need.
-       Second option is Giant Rune (the class has pretty high base HP) of Attack/Defense/Health depending on your need.
-       Focus rune is a no go with this class having very low CRIT stats.

With the stats and skill above, how does this class fair in our daily task:

The Gold Mine (Legendary): High 3-tile stab attack and 3-tile AOE can take out up to 3 targets in one swing, but lack of team aura, and mobility like the Dragoon makes the class less desirable.
Rating: 3/5

The Capitol’s Last Stand (Legendary): Can be used as a front liner with high DEF, but given how the minion spawn in 2 for the same row, his attack normally only hits 2 targets instead of 3. Active skill is very useful to stop the boss for 2 turns if it lands. He still needs to take time walking towards the boss though.
Raiting: 3.5/5

Legendary Stage (PVE): Higher DEF make this class able to hold out until the heal comes around. CC is useful everywhere, but may need more than 1 CC in some stages.
Rating: 4/5

Raid Boss (tentative): It’s very likely that the boss will be immune to stun. Lack of team aura is never a good thing for harder boss. Still, he has the highest survivability out of all champions.
Rating: 3/5

The Arena (PVP): With the current Meta focusing on tile control, you can usually take advantage of 5* lancer 3-tile normal attack. High attack will pierce through the guardian/champion in front and hurt the ranger at the back. His AOE CC active skill works well for delaying enemy’s skill, saving ally and also granting extra HP for himself. As mentioned above, his active skill can’t be used to OHKO a full hp enemy unlike a well equipped Berserker/Warlord.

Rating: 4/5

A jack of all trades, but that’s the reason he can fit in any team, especially when you need that extra cc. Given that every champion class is very strong atm, it’s a very tough choice which path to take. The most important thing is to just enjoy the game and make full use of whatever you have. Having fun is part of life.

Thanks for the overview. One question, would you prefer a Freya or Vincent gladiator on Ares/Zeus?

A kratos gladiator holding the front line with a blood knight Darrion is a sight to behold. Converting that awesome atk into a never-ending stream of health, backed with decent def, makes for an unstoppable wall.

Thanks, yea you will love her.

Thank you!

If Dragoon is your only 5* champion atm, I prefer to make another champion first instead of limit breaking. Kratos Gladiator is pretty decent.

Hmm, you mean who would i pick between Freya and Vincent for gladiator? Well, my answer is Freya, but she is not as accessible as the latter so I made Vincent into gladiator instead.

Thanks, critics are welcome.
