Hey,

I recently obtained a 3 star Miu and 3 star Vincent and theyre on the process of levelling up. Now, I plan to upgrade these two to 4 stars and eventually 5 stars. 

I know that I have to train them to +2 before I could upgrade stars, but, I'm not sure about the skills. 

Is the skill upgrade a requirement to upgrade them, or can I skip it altogether (to save gold)? Also, do the skills upgrades (done while 3 star) benefit the skills of 4 star hero?

The skill upgrade is not a requirement.
And don't upgrade them if you plan not to use them during certain star form (3*, 4*), because hero skill changes when you evolve them and the gold would be wasted on old skill.
