can anyone help comment? i am thinking of going pure magic, thinking whether i should roll for more heroes, opinions?

Very hard to advise if we don't know their faiths.

Could you list the faiths for these heroes you have?
- Luthor
- Vincent
- Shizu

- Kiera 
- Both Victorias

okay noted, faith is really not an issue for me because i will re-roll them eventually. i want to form ideally a pve and pvp team, so should i roll for more heros or focus on building them up first? is 4* and 3* heroes irrelevant? should i try to rank in ladder since i have winry, also i read that isabella is quite good so not too sure where i want to put them since i am maxing out at 100 unit size.

Re-roll when the feature gets a revamp... Right now, ignore all their faiths... Yes all of them.

Personal preference which should be decent anywhere: 
Vincent > Gladiator
Cybella > Grand Ranger/Gunslinger
Shizu > Magebane/Assassin
Victoria > Blood Knight
Luthor > Archbishop
Kiera > Elementalist/Mind Warder
Zedd > Mind Warder

You have enough 5* capable of forming up a team. Any 3* or 4* you should keep if you can afford the space for their higher tier versions to be released maybe in the far future. 4* Isabella was good because many abused her low CD AOE silence, right now after her nerf she's benched.

what do you do with duplicate 5* units?

should i try to roll for more valiants?

To limit break of course, don't use them to re-roll just yet it's very costly to do so right now.  You can also choose to branch into other jobs but it is advisable to strengthen your main force.

It's perhaps the most rare occurrence in the game to roll a Valiant though summons. If you can wait for the 2 new units to arrive (Guardian and Champion if I'm not wrong) and the elven race which may take even longer, then save up your gems for it. Else, blast them all now and hope for the best but never use them on equipment summons.

For Cybella it varries, whether you prefer more solid defense with Kratos or more skill damage and skill defense with Athena.

You are referring to Halloween event team right? Not gold farming event, because this is a terrible gold farming event team.

Note: Luthor is a poor healer, don't depend on him.
