Some things I would like to point out:
1) Previous events (around halloween and carnival), did not have such good prizes (aka a lot of gems). That time, gems were given out in much less amounts. Current events give more gems,especially the twin tower events. So, the guide was applicable then. Due to patches and all, this guide may no longer be exactly viable. 
2) You also need to consider that gem cavern is a LONG term investment. At that time, with the available information, while I wouldn't say that it is the BEST choice, it was a rather forward thinking. In the end though, it likely couldn't have worked, since many changes happened...
3) Finally, hindsight is always 20/20.

Pat437 has been playing for 6x days and has 3/4 gems cavern so he/she must be aware of Halloween event coz I've been around for 64 days and that was when Halloween event was running.

Other than that I agree that this guide is outdated, not to mention that not many that posted here agree with the guide to begin with. I feel the guide has a few nice information in some part of gameplay (if anyone bothers to extract and find out) which is similar to how many including me are doing, except for the part of ignoring most of gameplay and rush for gem cavern. But it's more of a matter of preference. Most ppl will quit before they get gems cavern if they have weak team and find the game difficult to play. But some ppl might not be that type.

Yea I started the game during the Halloween event and know of the Halloween event and participated in it as well.

Forced myself to grind out a decent team to finally be able to clear the 100% achievements event chest by the last few days of the event (mid Nov)

I admit that I may be too harsh on OP but, the thing is... I think the event achievement chests gave out better rewards at that time (compared to now) due to the legendary requirements to complete it (please correct me if I am wrong)

Nowadays, after the massive complaints to cut the legendary requirements from the event chest rewards so it's more accessible to new players, I think the current event chest rewards are worse than that period of time.

So... No, I don't think this guide is outdated; it's more DoA (Dead on Arrival).

Since this guide is posted a month or more ago, the author probably experienced Halloween (or earlier) too. So, even at that time, (I'm not even taking the twin Towers event into consideration), getting a decent team, play normally without skipping events, farming events, goldmine etc would net you more gems than rushing for Gem Cavern.

Given all the above points from my two posts and others and without needing 20/20 hindsight (for the Twin Towers event), this guide is still bad advice.
