Implement Live Arena Battles

Wed Mar 01, 2017 1:41 pm

Fighting AI is already becoming boring because AI is always predictable. I hope the Dev team can come up with something to activate live arena battles versus your friends or guildmates. Then perhaps down the line, VF can organize arena tournaments that can be broadcast live on facebook page or youtube.

Matchmaking would be an issue.

Are you the Arena number 7 last week or so Bansky? Double Faye comp? It's nice to see more tanks in the higher brackets rather than just Rangers and Vincents everywhere.

and what are the developers going to do if the other player just happen to be not around when matched?

u are going to be jammed there till the other player noticed he has being matched? or that player just take his own time and u are going to have to wait for his next move? complains from players that other players jammed them up and thus their arena orbs get wasted?

There are matchmaking systems implemented in games like Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm that solve those issues you talk about.
To more directly answer your question, what would happen is that the system would only match players who have both clicked on 'Find Battle'.

There are simple mechanics to make this possible. First thing of course the other party will have to be online and accept the challenge, and maybe if the party being challenged fails to accept your challenge, AI will automatically pilot the battle. Dev team will just have to use the same mechanics as with other multiplayer games.  As for tournaments, of course you will be automatically paired off with players near your rank or bracket.  This are just some of the things at the top of my head.  This is not really an impossible task.

Yes, I believe that's me. I employ 2 Fayes and 2 Rune Mages (Ronan and Zedd), plus WD teresa. I want to have diversity in my lineup and not just follow the cookie cutter top tier arena lineup.  Having a diverse lineup makes the battle actually more exciting. You will have to employ a different strategy when facing different team lineup. That's why for this reason, I am really hoping a live arena battle can be arranged by the Dev team. It will be really an exciting chess battle if you are facing a real person in arena rather than simply outwitting an AI.

Oh.  What I am suggesting initially is not random matchmaking. No orbs needed for it.  It will only be practice mode, which is available now between guild members and your friend list. There should be 2 layers of confirmation to make sure both players are ready for battle. If the dev team can develop that initially, then perhaps later on they can already build a more complex tournament style battle, where stakes will be high depending on your bracket.

For random matchmaking, it will be the same as any multiplayer game, you will just have to enter an arena waiting room and you will be pitted against enemies within your rank range. There should be a time limit for every move you make (say 10 seconds), if you fail to make a move within 10 seconds, AI will take over your move for that turn.  Or then can also employ chess rules where both players will be allotted a certain amount of time. You can also lose if your time will run out.

and how bout champion class? Champion class will be totally invalid since no one will knowing step forward a champion to be outright slaughtered.

Champion is only used now as AI actually steps forward so there is something to hit for champion class. so knowing in live real player battle champion is almost going to be useless, few will even use champion.

This will favour class like tanks and archers and mages as to a certain extent shadows cannot really step forward too so they too cannot deal damage if they do not step forward.

You say AI is predictable, u think how different it is in the long run when certain heros no matter what will too have to follow the best type of action best for it like tanks will sit back to wait for tanking damage etc. After awhile it too will be predictable and too follow a set of rules to move.

I have played lots of game where pvp is live but what is different here is movement of heros is required so it is not straight forward like other games where melee is not outright disadvantaged.
